Elly Kasim - J&B 28840

J&B Records JBL 28840
ELLY KASIM
"Pandeka Tengkak"
Band: "Kumbang Tjari"
Conductor: Nuskan Sjarief
The 40th record of the J&B company. approx. 1969-1970
On its cover a traditional Minangkabau house with its striking rooftop design.
Popularized versions of Minang songs from the Jakarta studio bands became hits: "Ayam dan Lapeh" and: "Bareh Solok" were loved by a great audience.
This recording returns to the original Minang music, but not yet "the real stuff" which has a very distinctive sound.
As the songs are in Minangkabau language, it is difficult to translate.
Just a trial ( and hopefully not an error )
"Baju Ye Ye" - a modern dress -
"Tanah Jambi" - The land of Jambi - ( a province in Sumatra )
"Kusi Bendi" - The driver of a coach -
"Nasib Si Buta" - The fate of a blind person -
"Oto I.P.S. - The car from I.P.S. , do not know where I.P.S. stands for. Indonesian Postal service maybe, haha,

Elly Kasim - Fontana 64550055

FONTANA 6455005
ELLY KASIM
"Singgalang Maimbau"
Band: Zaenal Combo
Conductor Zaenal Arifin
The record couldbe from 1967
"Tolong Ubekkan" is the nicest one in my opinion.
Its a nice record, the musical accompaniment approaching to the Minangkabau style, but not fully.
Still the best ones are on other blogposts, which have a very distinct sound and melodies, once heard, lingering on in my brain, never to get out of it ( "Kaparinyo", "Lankisau", "Ayam dan Lapeh" etc. )
The Band is Zaenal Arifin ( 1935 - 2002 ) one of the Maestro's in Popmusic but he suddenly changed to another profession in 1971( ? ) I forgot the exact year, but far too early. He was also a gifted composer, but on this record are no songs by his hand.
There is a song written by Adjis Sutan Sati, who I found on another record as a vocalist, maybe he is from Malaysia.
The Island of Sumatra, from where the Minang Music comes, can be regarded as a "Cultural Bridge" between the Asian mainland and the rest of Indonesia.

Kapan Kama'i ( Masroel Mamudja )
Ka Uda Surang - ( Masroel Mamudja )
Bagaikan Si Cebol - ( Iful S. )
Alek Olo - ( Sjamsi Hasan )
Surek Putuih Dari Jao
Bisikan - Ku - ( Iful S. )
Tolong Ubekkan
Singgalang Maimbau - ( Adjis Sutan Sati )
Kok Tau - ( Sjahrul Tarun Jusuf )
Relakan Daku - ( Iful S. )
Takiicuah Juo - ( Sjahrul Tarun Jusuf )
Pabilo Kabasuo - ( Ramadhan B. Amat )
