The 9th Album.
Too much sugar? Titiek and Muchsin singing sweet love songs to each other, the listener almost feeling like an intruder.
More spice and less sugar I prefer.
The record consists of "questions and answers" The first song by Muchsin " Why are you crying" is followed by Titiek's " Just let me cry " and so on for all songs.

The Cover: Postcards of the 60's depicting the modern Jakarta always show the same spot: Hotel Indonesia and the nearby Jalan Thamrin.
At present day this area is dwarfed by new much higher buildings that sprang up all over the city.
In front of Hotel Indonesia are standing: Benjamin S, dressed more or less like a schoolboy, and Rossy, I think from the girls singer group Rita, Nita & Rossy.
Benjamin S. ( Benjamin Sueb ) became a comedian, a burlesque actor and kind of Jakarta folk hero.
It is not the music that counts first, but the lyrics in Jakarta dialect. It will be more apreciated by "Betawi" people who understand the language.
( "Betawi" is a nickname for Jakarta )
I will try to make a translation of the songtitles.
The songs are in "Betawi" dialect, some words are unclear to me.
The title of the record is: " Indehoi " which means: having a good time.
Indehoi is from the Dutch phrase "In het hooi" ( In the hay ). Those old day farmers-boys played and fooled around in the hay, which was stacked very high, out of sight from their parents, even more fun when some farmer's girls joined in.
"Si Neneng" - Neneng - Is about his fiancee "don't care she is dumb and ugly"
"Taisennye" - The song goes: I f you are the flower - I'll be the honey bee etc. etc. the song goes on like this. The duck-like voice is Si Gogo an electronic gimmick which the 50 and 60's folks were carazy about.
"Daag Say" is about modern life, a scooter, girls in mini dress, going "naar boven" which means a weekend trip to the cooler high grounds, while papa is busy with his new wife,
"Ngundang" He will marry soon, he praying to get financial contributions from the guests.
"Masih Untung" Still lucky or: lucky escape? Has the song a double meaning?
The song "Nyai Dasima" is an old story from the "Opera Stamboel" a open-air street theatre of more than 100 years ago.
There one could see all kind of tales from the east, but also "Romeo and Juliet" and "Little Red Riding Hood" altered more ore less to suit the taste of the audience. These plays were attended by people of all races, except the high class people who preferred going to the genuine opera like in Milan and other big cities in Europe.
"A'de Deeh" - Old and young are much the same when in romantic mood
"Apa Boleh Buat" - Why Worry - He promised to take his girlfriend to the cinema at payday, but after paying off his debts nothing is left so he has to sell his pants to get money for the cinema.
The songs are difficult to translate , I can just a little understand some words and phrases and where's the song about, but maybe miss the underlying
gag at he end.

This record I bought just a few weeks ago in Amsterdam. at the Waterloo-plein market.
When seeing it at first glance, I know already about its contents, because I am already the owner of "Salina 7"
So I knew already singers are not on this record, despite the image on the record sleeve, just a nice girl who is enhancing the appearance of the record.
The instrumentals on this record are from well known songs, vocalized before by many artists.
Hearing this record it gives a kind of "Empty House" feeling, as used to hear these songs so often by all those excellent singers.
Instrumentals are at their best when special new compositions are made for them.
"Suratmu" is played in a more lively style, like the Indonesian bands with Zaenal Arifin. In this case a sax is added which was rare in Indonesia, but more often used by those Chinese ballroom orchestra's on the mainland.
Still I am quite satisfied with the record, it is in new condition like never played before, nice colored glossy cover and on the A-side 25 minutes of music, thanks to Philips minigroove technique.

This must be the first recording of this group and approx from 1965 or 1966.

"Gumbira" is a Sundanese composition by Mangkoko Koswara, one of the founders of Sundanese modern music.
"Abunawas" and "Lampu Aladin" an oriental setting, which suits to the eastern tales in these songs
The composer Jessy Wenas did this more often, see also the song "Kisah 1001 Malam" on playlist 036.
"Menuai Padi" has a Latin American flavor, not uncommon in those days.
"Tarik Layar" ( "Hoist the Sails" ) is more close to melodies from the Moluccas.
So most songs are songs are calmly an melodious from the time singers still were acompanied by orchestras instead of bands, also to be detected the descending tones of the Sundanese style, sounding odd to untrained ears.
The song "Purnama Dan Irama" is already somewhat more vivacious.

Many records and cassettes would follow , with fine melodious songs.
Some are very well-known and often re-released by other artists.

Side 2 of the record is damaged, the four last songs from this playlist are ripped from a
cassette which was issued in 1974

The everlasting ones in Mazefs opinion: " Fujiyama", ( Origianal title "Kutsukake Tokijiro" , originating from Japan )
and "Bole2 Jangan", in "Melayu" style, often vocalized by other artists as well.
In the Collection also one by Hetty Koes Endang sounding more "Fortissimo"
