LILIS SURJANI
Band: Pantja Nada
Conductor: Enteng Tanamal
Year 1965 - 66
Genre: Various, moderate modern.
The cover is damaged, the record is in reasonable shape.
"Pantun Jenaka" - Funny poem - All kind of sayings and comments shape as a "pantun" or traditional short poems., don't know where the melody is from, sounds like a working song or maybe even a dance tune somewhere from the coastal areas of South East Asia.
"Gelombang Alun" - The swell of the waves - Can't detect if its sung in Javanese or Sundanese, strange, normally I can.
"Gang Kelinci" - Rabbit alley - or -Rabbit lane- There she originated form. If you ever went to Pasar Baru in Jakarta you might be unaware there is crowded neighbourhood just behind the shopping emporiums. The song is composed by Titiek Puspa, when Lilis Surjani came to visit her she surely would have said: "Aha, that child from Gang Kelinci, again"
In the song the folks of this area are compared with rabbits, swarming and crawling.
"Asmara" - Deep love -
"Hari Ulang Tahun" ( My ) Birthday. In the song can be heard she has reached the age of 17. She was born in 1948, so the song is from 1965, which is quite possible, the record is also from 1965. So its quite autobiographical, like the song mentioned before.
"Terbang Lalat"- Flying Flies - Repeated rhymes with no direct meaning.
"Kisah Ali Baba" - The story of Ali Baba- In the song a mysterious oriental atmosphere is created, as you can hear by the tune.
"Tandak Sambas" Its sounds regional, maybe from the coastal areas of Sumatra or beyond to Malaysia, or the coastal areas of Kalimantan ( don't blame me if I am wrong ) "Tandak" is another word for Dance, mostly in traditional way they dance in rows.
