The 22nd LP record by Titiek Sandhora, again with Muchsin, From 1971

The record surface is rather scratched, but not till an unbearable level.

"Maju Dua Centi" - Forward 2 centimetres - One of the "I know someone who uses to...." songs. In this case about a person, when angry, always make protrude the lips 2 cm forward, like a chicken.
"Didiamkan Keenakan" - Better not reveal or talk about - Titiek wants to know if Muchsin had someone else before they met.
"Pesan Ibu" - Mother's instructions" ( Take a good wife ) It is from the Original: " Visions " ( 1966 ) by Cliff Richard.
"Kontes Ratu Kecantikan" - Beauty contest -
"Datang Dan Perginya Cinta" - Love Came an Went -
"Ku Ingin Mengerti" - I want to know -
"Sehidup Semati" - Till death us part - It is an imported song sounds a little Bombay - styled.
"Teringat Kampong Halaman" - Remembering my village - This song belongs to the "Mandarin" genre. But in fact it
originates from Japan, titled: "Saku No Kojiro" Iti s one of the nicest songs from Muchsin, it has motion and tempo, which I like.
"Aku Diciwiti" A Javanese song.
"Jangan Sampai Dua Kali" - Not a second time - I nice song, well constructed, like a song should be.
"Terimalah Daku Ini" - Accept me -
"Jangan Mengemis Cinta" - Cannot translate the title "Mengemis" is unknown to me.

Music from other countries surely contributed to the Indonesian populair music.

In many cases elements from aboad were imported, altered, mixed and blended

with Indonesian sounds resulting in very original completely new pieces of work.

Sometimes the input is much closer to the output, like in this recording.

Its almost sounding like Indian music with only the lyrics in Indonesian.

This genre is mostly classified belonging to the "Melayu" musical style.

Maybe originating from the popularity of the Indian film.

Many cinemas released these movies with their colourful stories and singing.

One of this cinemas was "Rivoli" on Jln. Kramat, Jakarta, do not know it still exists.

This cinema was specialized in Indian films, no other genre was showed.

Date of this record approx. 1974.

The record-sleeve is from Remaco, but the contents described are the same.

This is the one aquired in Amsterdam, on a street-market.

A Dutch record-label, with other releases of Indonesian music.

These songs can be found in many versions, with various lyrics

depending on the mood of the singer.

Some being not Kroncong by origin, but arranged in Kroncong style.

R. Pirngadi made a kind of " Jakarta-Opera " and transformed folk songs which usually are accompanied by just a flute, a violin and a gong, into orchestral works with choruses and simphonical arrangements.

The song "Jali Jali" is on this record is very orchestral

"Dayung Sampan" a sweet simple song, well known in many languages of Southeast Asia.

The peculiar voice of Sajekti can be heard.

In good Kroncong music its the singer who leads, the orchestra

follows, enlacing the voice of the artist in a gentle manner.

The song "Kelap Kelip" = "flickering lights"

An interesting phenomena can be witnessed in some tropical parts of South East Asia:

At night miriads of firebugs gather in trees. These light-emitting creatures light up and go out, simultaneously and synchronized. The trees become the stage for a natural spectacle.

The effect can be hypnotizing if one is looking too long at it.

This feature is also called "Kelap Kelip" in some regions. In the song however it is about the flickering lights of the city.

The sixteenth album produced in 1970

On the coverphotos the singer Titiek Sandhora on the motorhood of a Fiat

near Juanda Airport in Surabaya ( I think )

She bought a Fiat herself from the revenues of her records and live concerts.

Her own car however was ivory white according an article in "Tempo" magazine from 23 april 1971. ( Thanks Mellowtone )

In those days one could see many European cars, the import from Japan had just begun.

On the backside of the record Muchsin, just walking in the vincinity.

The first song "Bini Lagi Ngidam" ( The Wife Is Craving ) is about a wife who is craving for the Durian fruit.

She sends her husband all over town to look for it, a difficult task because it is not

yet the right season for this fruit. He proposes to buy another kind of fruit, but the wife insists in having

the durian fruit and nothing else. As you mabe know already the Durian, the king of fruits, is something

people love or hate, there is no way inbetween.

Because of the many love song duets, many people were wondering if they really were attracted to each other or just acting. The mother of Titiek Sandhora was against any kind of relationship, she did not trust Muchsin who was 10 years older than Titiek Sandhora who was just 16 at he time this record was produced..

Later Titiek Sandhora and Muchsin Alatas married, in 1973.
