The singer Elly Kasim is from the Minangkabau region in West Sumatra.
Two songs are in the Minang language and musical style:
"Bugi Lamo" and "La Dek Ato" .
On later recordings original Minang musical instruments also are present.
This record from approx. 1965 has a mixed content. Only 2 songs are Minangkabau , later on she made recordings exclusively Minang-styled.
Those early modern-recordings reflected the taste of the middle class public in the cities, being the first group who could afford being records.
They liked also South American Music, singers like Perry Como, Bing Crosby etc,
A few years later people in the kampongs and up country also were able buying records and the music absorbed more local influences and also the Melayu style etc.
